“And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.” 1Samuel 16:1 KJV
There are times in life we murmur and complain over the ways of life. We tend to complain about things we do not understand. We call ourselves standing in the gap for others when they walked away from the favor given them. Samuel the prophet may have had good intentions but the truth of the matter fell upon Saul’s out right disobedience to God. It didn’t matter how much Samuel counseled, ministered, interceded or helped Saul. The choices and decision Saul made by forgetting himself in all the power of being king. The wealth, the abilities, the increase, notoriety, fame, the entourage…the list goes on but getting to a place to where you stop listening to wise counsel comes at a price. Saul chose to walk away from God’s favor and thus gave up his anointing as king. It didn’t happen immediately but events were set into motion that eventually caused him to lose his mind, his kingdom and his life.
Samuel felt bad, truly sorrowful because he had a role, Samuel could have felt he could have done more, he could have spoke more, been around more…but it was not Samuel who was disobedient. Samuel did as he was instructed. He spoke when given the Word. He stood in the gap, he traveled and prepared the way, Samuel was hurt and could have thought he had done something wrong
But God gave Samuel a new purpose. GOD sent him on assignment, God waited for the tears to cease and said why do you mourn? you didn’t reject Saul, Saul rejected me so I took away my Spirit, my favor, my covering and hedge and found a son who i will send you too.
Nugget: God didn’t send David to Samuel. Nor did God send Samuel to David. GOD sent Samuel to Jesse, the father’s house. David was sent for or called for by his father and presented (anointed) before his brothers who were tested but not selected. But thats another lesson.
How long will you mourn? God has an assignment for you. God has instructions to give you and a new place to send you but the order will be different than before. Follow them exactly as given.
