Respect of Persons ???
Continue to do well, be strong and possess the land before thee…Moses was given a job to do in bringing the children of Israel out out bondage and into the land promised them
But not everyone liked what he said or how he accomplished it. Not everyone was for nor followed his words, some would try to bring up his past, others would debate his authority, others still would purposely try to set him up before the people with words of discontent, “we were better of in Egypt.” “You brought us out here to die, we have no food and water” “so only God speaks to you as if you are the only one who hears from Him”
So many times tested, pushed, angered, talked about but all in all Moses endured when they forgot who they were, Moses endured and remembered their name. Moses stood in the gap and prayed for them. Moses suffered and at times surely felt unqualified, was unheard and wanted to walk away.
Have you ever wondered if a day, moment passed to were Moses thought, If only I would have just not killed that slave and remained a prince of Egypt? I would be king? I would be better off but no I had to help my fellow ungrateful brother and kill, now am running for my life, to meet the God, i never knew, be given a task I didn’t want for a nation of people who never want to be free, for a people who are so willing to give up their inheritance and are so judgemental of one another…God could you choose someone else? They cried for over 400 years for deliverance and when it comes, they are not satified. They forget about the blood shed, the generations lost and complain. LORD, why me?
“Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.” Deuteronomy 1:17 KJV
There are many verses that cause one to question how we are to be towards one another. Unfortunately not everyone agrees with nor reads the Bible. Some do not believe in God, some feel they are to good, some say that the Bible is a book of fables and dreams. Some believe God is fictional, a made up being, a deity create for the weak.
These very people and mindsets Moses had to have encountered. Moses was given the task to lead a people from captivity to freedom, he then had to select people to judge arguments, problems, settle disputes fairly with wisdom according to the law because the people you wanted to be free kept trying to do so without God.
“These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.” Proverbs 24:23 KJV
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.” Colossian 3:23-25 KJV
I remind you as I remind myself. You need to truly be careful of the respect you deny a person because you judge them according to what you perceive of their works. God will judge. God will elect. God will use whom He uses to do His will not do what you expect or want him to do.
Follow God and forgive man. Seek God’s approval but respect every man’s work, every man’s identity and every man’s job. It is God who uses the foolish things (we think) to confuse the so called best of the best. For He raises who He calls and calls whomever He shall raise.
