~Remember The Time of Your Upbringing~
“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Timothy 3:15-17 KJV
I want to share this with you which comes not to correct but comes to enlighten your understanding. The above author is the apostle Paul and the intended recipient of the message is Timothy, his son in the faith (1 Timothy 1:2) but the truth is for all believers in which you are included. On page 27 and 28 of the book entitled “The Apostle’s Anointing” I give a personal account focused on the part in verse 14 that is rarely taught, Paul reminds Timothy of his upbringing. The focus is also past tense meaning to say that this revelation is already been given. I come from a generation as some of you who claim we were “made to” “dragged in” “forced” to go to church, we sang in the children’s choir, we played pastor, we had mothers of the church who wouldn’t let us get away with anything and everytime we tried sneaking out we would see someone who knew and told our parents. It boils down to we claim we didn’t pay attention, we say we didn’t enjoy or understand church but the truth is we were being filled. We were given stories and lessons, we recited and remembered scripture verses, we as Timothy were taught. We confessed, accepted and believed by faith in our baptism, we understood why we were baptized, we confessed in front of the entire church body and we sung praises to GOD. We believed by faith that Jesus Christ was Our LORD and Savior. Our innocence as children unwavered and then we so called grew up…and forgot
Our faith now had to be measured by what we saw (see); we wanted answers and mimiced behaviors going into teen and adulthood which was socially acceptable, relying more on people than GOD; we put our trust in each others actions, we validated some, talked about others and dismissed a few. As we grew older we relied less on GOD, believed less of the Bible and forgot about our salvation. Yet when challenged about our behavior we could still recite the holy scriptures…???
This is a simple reminder to remember your upbringing, remember your faith, remember your salvation and the hope of your calling. Stop turning away from the faith and turn to it
